When an ammonite is cut in half and the inner faces polished you find a series of chambers forming an almost perfect spiral. It also reveals a truly wonderful array of colours. The animal lived in the last chamber, filling the others with fluid if it needed to sink to the ocean floor to avoid predators. Ammonites finally died out with the dinosaurs some 65 million years ago. These are highly decorative pieces and are sold in matching pairs. We have in stock a range of different sizes at different prices for all pockets.
