TITLE COTHAM MARBLE SLICE 20149
DESCRIPTION Carefully sliced and then polished to one face, this is a good small example of cotham marble. It is in fact a limestone and is often referred to as a landscape stone because of the images of ploughed fields, trees and hedges. It is a stromatolite, and these patterns are created by fossilised algae in the limestone. Found only near Bristol and parts of South Wales it is some 200 million years old. (Upper Triassic.)
