Now mounted and framed, this original calico bag, dating from around 1910, contained McDougals Self Raising Flour. Opened to reveal both faces at once, the text is very revealing. A three pound net bag, "saves the addition of yeast and baking powder, and requires fewer eggs and less butter owing to the lightness of the flour." Wheatsheaf Mills Millwall Docks E. means we can give it an early pre war date of c1912 The reverse of the bag lists a series of tempting recipes, including; Suet Pudding, Cut and Come Again Cake, Current loaf and Short Cut Pastry. A rare piece of Edwardian packaging to have survived.
