TITLE MANCUR SCALES
DESCRIPTION Dating from the 1850's these intriguingly shaped scales were used on the farm to weigh things like sacks and bales of wool. They are referred to as mancur scales and were banned because they were so inaccurate. (They relied on a circular band of steel which gave a different reading depending on temperature.) The brass crescent is calibrated on both faces hence two different sized hooks. 0 - 40lbs and 20lb - 400lb.
