A strong blue colour to this Victorian chemist round with its recessed label behind glass. It is in lovely condition, with a loose fitting stopper as the bottle contained a sugary syrup. There is a very minor flake chip to the top of the stopper. SYR RHAMNI was a purgative made from the bitter juice of the ripe berries of the common buckthorn. This bitter taste was disguised by the sugar syrup and also cinnamon, ginger and aniseed.
