This lovely clear glass cylinder round was hand blown around 1850 and had a strond pontil mark to its base. The loose fitting metal top is original but at some point has been repainted. the label indicates that the contents were CARYOPILLUS AROMATICUS. This is commonly referred to as Clove (from the Latin Clavus, a nail.) Used as a herbal remedy for parasites, it also good to treat toothache and mouth and throat inflammation.
