TITLE FLORES ALTHAEAE
DESCRIPTION This lovely hand blown pharmacy round bears the label FLORES ALTHAEAE The base of the jar has a strong pontil mark and the loose fitting top is original, though repainted at some point. The label translates as Marsh Mallow a plant indigenous to Africa. The leaves flowers and root all have medicinal properties, these are reflected in the name of the genus which comes from the Greek althainean meaning "to heal". Marsh Mallow is traditionally used as a treatment for the irratation of mucous membranes, including use as a gargle for mouth and throat ulcers and gastric ulcers.
