These large impressive terracotta pots were made in the Mediterranean and are often referred too by the Greek word prthoi. They originated in Crete and were used as storage for oil, wine, or grain. They have a strong profile and would make an excellent feature in your garden. This one is a particularly good size and retains some of its lime-wash white which was applied to the top section, the lower section being buried in the sand. The iron stand is modern, but they look equally impressive when lying on their side.
