This rare device was designed to eradicate weeds from formal lawns, cricket pitches etc. The brass tag reads "Peter Carmichael and Co Ltd. The Grange Killweeder. Patent No 22627. 64a Grove Road Balham SW12." The patent number dates to 1891 but the piece is more likely to date to the early 20th Century. The end cap of the tool doubles as a measuring scoop for your chemical weed killer. The foot of the device, which is cast in aluminium, is placed over the offending weed and with a spring action, using pressure, the measured chemical is delivered.
